Cheese dreaming of you.

I think I’ve forgotten how to use the internet.  The internet has come to a point where everything is fed to me by feeds.  Be it on tumblr with my few followed tumblogs or on twitter with my few followed twitterers or even on facebook where my friends post stuff they encounter all the time.

I don’t use the internet to search for myself any more and I find this really distressing.  In a way it ensures quality because the portion of the internet that is fed to me is filtered by curious minds but in another way it stifles adventure.  No longer can I find my own little part of the internet to amuse myself as it’s just an amalgamation of what people I like… like.

These days I can successfully just refresh my inbox for notifications of things that I will most likely be interested in where as in the past I would have to open several windows (before the invention of tabbed browsing) to follow several threads of interest on several different websites.

I’m not saying it’s technically a bad thing.  It’s exciting that the parts of the internet that I’ll find most spectacular are so easily filtered towards me but a little part of me, perhaps a part of my inner child’s intrigue with the world and how it works, part of me wants to just go on an adventure.  Unfortunately, it’s so much easier to just click refresh.
